Pay Attention

“Become aware of your thoughts, and you can change your reality” 

I have a picture on the wall behind my desk at work  that quotes “we are creators of our reality through our thoughts”, and most patients will make a comment on it. What becomes very apparent is that although many have heard the quote, not many have really stopped to think about what it means. It certainly makes for some interesting conversations.

I have believed for many years that we are creators of our own life whether we like to admit it or not. Whether through conscious decisions or unconsciously through our thoughts we ultimately pay the price or reap the benefits for those thoughts. If we are going through a hard time, it WILL eventually pass, but in the interim, it is the stress that keeps building and the powerful negative emotion that comes from within that plants us smack in the middle of an  out of control situation.  A great example of this in my own life was about ten years ago while working in my business. It was a series of circumstances at work that just kept escalating. One bad situation on top of another which then spilt over into my personal life resulting in my car taking a plunge into our swimming pool before I stopped and acknowledged what I was doing to create it.   More on the pool incident within another blog.

This process works just as much for our positive thoughts and decisions, but as humans, we focus on the “not working” scenarios rather than the Ones that “are” working.

If you believe that there is a universal power that helps drive our lives, then you need to start paying attention to what you are creating with your thoughts. If you’re not, then continue on your path. There is no right or wrong here. We all have freedom of choice.

If things are going wrong in your life and your once settled world starts to change for the worse then pay attention to the emotion you are putting towards it.  If you are stressed out then you are emitting a powerful negative energy that will start a domino effect on not only your life but on the energies of people around you. The stress then manifests in bringing about other situations that then add to “more” stress and “more” powerful emotion until you STOP and make a conscious decision to alter your response to the situation.

Your whole world may change dramatically overnight, or sometimes it may be a slow progressive process resulting in sometimes an unwanted change because we are ignoring the signs along the way for the inevitable. We continue to do the same things and keep accepting the same circumstances because it is an insurmountable chore to change it or you just don’t know where to start.

Sometimes this chain of events has been created due to a series of thoughts that we may have set in motion months earlier, particularly if we are refusing to pay attention to the actions that are needed for us to improve the current circumstance.

How often do you hear colleagues or friends around you complaining about the same problem for what seems like forever? If they just stopped and examined the choices or mistakes they keep making or accept the information that someone may be offering then they can bring about the positive change to break the cycle.

So when you are under duress in your life, JUST STOP, look at the circumstances and then see in what way you can change the way you are thinking. What thoughts are you having and what is the emotion they have triggered?  It may be just one small thing you do,  but it may make a difference. If it is something that you cannot change at that time then accept it as it is BUT put it into a time period. A bad situation or circumstance may come and go in a short space of time, but if it is something that cannot be changed, for example, it involves too many other people, then set an intention and put a time frame on it. Get excited about the possibility!!! It is THAT emotion that will set in motion the change you are wanting.

  1. Recognize the problem
  2. Decide on a solution
  3.  Set the intention
  4. Get excited about the possibility
  5. Put the solution into action
  6. Continue to get excited and imagine what it will be like to bring it to fruition

I have made these suggestions with many patients over the years and I am always so happy to hear they acted on them and changed their circumstances. Once you make the intention and get excited about it, people and resources will start appearing to help you along the way. Your awareness will shift thus building on the information you require. You may open a magazine and the exact resource you need will jump out at you. It may be a course that happens to be offered close to where you live, or it may be a conference or a speaker that can assist you further. These have always been there, but now you have shifted your awareness.

I will put a disclaimer here though. None of this will happen if you don’t ACT on the information. You will miss the boat if you don’t take action. You must make that call, Look up that internet site or book that conference. The information would not come to you if it were not meant for you so take it as a sign that you are on the right track.  A clear sign from the universe that you are headed in the right direction is when everything falls into place quickly. The exact timing and location scenarios will be apparent.

If you have to work hard to bring about the first initial steps, then you may just have to take a step back and re-examine the intention or goal. For example, you may have the right career in mind, but you may be signing up for the wrong course or the conference you thought would be the best one suddenly gets cancelled. So Don’t make arrangements to fly to another city so you can attend it there. If you were meant to participate in THAT conference, then it would have gone ahead for you the first time. Get the drift!

So, become aware of your thoughts to help change your reality. It will take time, and yes, it is impossible to monitor every thought you have. Just try throughout your day to become aware of good thoughts and pay attention to negative thoughts which will result in negative self-talk.  It is absolutely possible.
