The decision to turn left

I am very fortunate where I live in the Queensland Hinterland. It is a place where you immediately relax, similar to the small villages in the states.  I travel home from the business hub of the coast and I come to a junction where I can choose to either turn right or left. Turning right takes me through the suburbs and certainly is the faster route home by about 10 minutes. I am very time poor so most times I will choose to turn right. However, making the choice to turn left will take me through the rural areas. Turning left means a short drive through the suburbs which merges into a spectacular rural countryside. The roads become narrower and tree lined and you can feel the change of temperature the further into the range you drive.  The area is so lush and green as I pass quirky little cottages with their green rolling pastures, post and rail fencing and timber barns. I take in the livestock such as the cows with their newborn calves and mares with their playful foals. Just taking their time to enjoy new life under the protective eye of their mums. The mountains are in the background, rolling hills and roads lined with fallen leaves from the lush undergrowth. As you get deeper into the range, the mist starts to form where the coolness of the area meets the warm air. It’s magical.

As the landscape changes and I get further into the range, I often wonder why I don’t go this way more often? What is the cost to me if it takes 5 or 10 minutes longer? Does it make a difference to how much work I get done at home? Will an extra 10 minutes really make a difference to how much I achieve that day? Why do we place so much emphasis on time when the reality of 10 minutes does not neccessarily determine a worse outcome? At least not in this circumstance.

BUT the decision to turn left? Giving myself permission to take a break from my everyday reality to experience the wonderful sensation that the range can bring. A simple thing like paying attention to life going on around me blending seamlessly in this wonderful world. Is that not worth the time?

Absolutely yes. When you stop and think about the importance of 10 minutes in this context and the benefits I receive from taking this magical route. The benefit to “me?,  Priceless. Life can truly be magical
